Description

Mopane Bush Lodge, of African Renaissance design, nestles in the mopane bushveld. The lodge has been designed to provide simple luxury while being luxuriously simple, ensuring guests can relax in quiet exclusivity.

The entrance leads onto a mezzanine where the vista of the bushveld unfolds before you. A curved wooden staircase sweeps down into the dining room & lounge.

The full service bar links the boma and lapa which overlooks the sparkling pool.

Mopane Bush Lodge has accommodation for 16 in eight secluded, twin bedded, en-suite thatched chalets, each within its own kraal. There is an uninterrupted view to the horizon from each verandah.

The spacious bedrooms are designed for you to enjoy your stay in comfort, with deep firm mattresses, luxurious linen and large absorbent towels. All windows and doors are screened. There is a safe in the wardrobe for guests to store their valuables. The coffee/tea station, together with iced water, is available for refreshment at any time.

Each chalet has its own en-suite shower room with a 110v/220v-shaver plug and a hairdryer. Or the more daring can take a shower outdoors under the African skies.

One of the chalets is designed and equipped to be wheelchair friendly.

The sparkling pool, with waterfall and martini seat, is an option on a warm valley day.

Excellent international cuisine, with a personal touch, is served in our spacious dining room, in the boma, in the lapa overlooking the sparkling pool or in the bush. Meals are designed and served to meet the programmes of activities of the guests. A full service bar is available. Guests who plan to be out for the day are provided with a substantial picnic.

A walking trail leads to a hide overlooking the dam where game and birds can be observed.

There is a large bird pond, with a bench, where guests can relax and watch the birds, dragonflies and sometimes game coming for a drink.

The lodge has open game viewing vehicles for drives on the Nature Reserve and in Mapungubwe National Park.

Accommodation

Eight secluded twin-bedded thatched chalets with en-suite bathroom, each situated in their own kraal with an exclusive veranda and an additional outdoor shower. All chalets have an uninterrupted view over the mopane bushveld to the distant horizon, and no view of any other building or development.

The spacious bedrooms are designed for a relaxed stay in luxurious comfort, with top quality mattresses and bedding, generous cupboard space, safe in each room, hair dryer, good lighting over a large mirror at the dressing table and at the bedside tables and a laundry service. There is a tea/coffee station in every room. The bathrooms have spacious showers, large thirsty towels, good lighting over the basin with a large mirror and shelf space on each side and an 110v/220v shaver plug.

On a warm valley day, cool off in the sparkling pool with waterfall and martini seat beside the bar. A comfortable lounge with a small library provides the ideal retreat for those leisurely moments, with a fireplace for the wintry nights.

Shelters are available for all guests vehicles.

Dining

Delicious meals, simply prepared, are served in our spacious dining room, in the boma around the fire under the brilliant southern night sky, in the lapa around the pool or in the bush. The boma, lapa and pool areas are served by an outside bar. Any special dietary requirements can be catered for if informed with the reservation.

Children Policy

Due to the seclusion of the chalets, they are not ideally suited to accommodate young children. However, children can be accommodated on the understanding that sleeping in bunk beds or cots in the chalets with parents is a compromise.

Mapesu Nature Reseve
Mopane Bush Lodge is situated on Mapesu Nature Reserve, a 6000-hectare game farm in the Limpopo Valley. This Nature Reserve is a safe environment for walking, cycling, birding, game tracking and driving in the bush either self guided or with a guide. The Reserve is home to many species of game (no dangerous animals) and birds, and a variety of trees and shrubs, some of which are endemic to the area. Rates include all activities such as guided drives or walks on Mapesu Nature Reserve.

Mapungubwe National Park
A new National Park with spectacular views of the Limpopo River, dramatic scenery, spectacular sandstone cliffs, riverine forests with elephants and other wildlife. Also available is an elevated boardwalk through the forest to a hide overlooking the Limpopo River and viewing decks with an awesome experience overlooking the confluence of the Limpopo & Shashe Rivers where Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa meet.

Mapungubwe World Heritage Site
A tour to Mapungubwe Hill, the site of the first African Kingdom which reached its climax in the 13th Century, predating Great Zimbabwe. This is where gold and other artefacts found here prove the kingdom traded with China, India and the Arabic countries of the east in the 13th Century. The home of the famed “Golden Rhino”, South Africa’s crown jewels.

Track Wild Dog

Mopane Bush Lodge, a tranquil bush retreat graded a 4* luxury lodge, of African Renaissance design, nestles in the Mopane bushveld. It is situated on Mapesu Nature Reserve, a 6000-hectare game farm in the Limpopo Valley, adjacent to the Mapungubwe National Park. The eight secluded thatched chalets are situated each in their own kraal with en-suite bathroom, exclusive verandah and additional out door shower. It is the ideal setting for a really comfortable bush experience.

Directions

Travel on the N1 North highway to Pietersburg/Polokwane though four tolls totalling about R85. We suggest the best place to stop for fuel and refreshment is The Ranch, 20km before Pietersburg. At Pietersburg, turn left at the second traffic lights and follow Nelson Mandela Drive round the town. At the seventh traffic light turn right at the sign R521 DENDRON. The next light turn left onto the R521 to Dendron road. Proceed along this road for 140km to Alldays. At Alldays turn right and proceed towards Pontdrif. Travel for 46km towards Pontdrif and turn right onto R572 towards Musina. This is the second tarred road off to the right after leaving Alldays. Mopane Bush Lodge is 29km on R572 on right just past the cell phone mast. Turn into Mapesu Ranch and follow signs to the Lodge. Total distance from Johannesburg to Mopane Bush Lodge is about 540km, all tarred. Gravel road on farm is about 3km.
